Holiday Weekend

Yesterday was a sweet day. Nathan preached at church and, as always, I was encouraged by his knowledge of the Word and passion for God's people to hear truth. I won't go into detail about what he preached because I would get something wrong...hahahaha...but he basically took us from Old to New Testament and how God longs to dwell with His people. I am so thankful for his leadership in my life!

We had a cookout with our Faith family which was a lot of fun. A few of the men grilled and we had TONS of food!!! The kids played in the creek which was entertaining and we were able to sit, chat, and catch up with friends. It was a beautiful day (although I could have done without the cicadas) and we are so blessed to be a part of a great church family!

Happy Memorial Day!!! For those of you that serve or have served our country, we are thankful for you!

Cinnamon Toast

Mama made cinnamon toast a lot when we were little and we LOVED IT!!! I have started making it for the boys and every time I make it I think about my sweet Mama.

Brandon ate two pieces...he avoids the crust like the plague but he eats the rest of it. Carson ate two pieces too...even after he had fruit! GROWING BOY!

Mama, I need to introduce Carson to french toast. Brandon has had it but Carson would LOVE IT! =)

Jump Jump Jump

Yes, Carson fell asleep JUMPING! =) This happened a couple weeks ago during church and I just thought, "Man, he must have been exhausted that he fell asleep jumping." hahahaha well, it has happened twice at the YMCA since then.

Silly boy!

Yesterday was not a good nap day! Normally, I put the boys down around noon and they sleep till 2:30. I can plan on that just about every day. They are great sleepers (thank goodness)! Well, yesterday they decided they wanted to sleep for AN HOUR! Ok, I know that's a decent little nap but not when I plan on 2 1/2 hours! =)

It was ok though. It was the first pretty day we had seen in a while so I packed their snacks and we headed to the park. I contacted a few of our friends to see if anyone wanted to come play. We had a great time -- the boys LOVE being outside!!

By the time we got home I think they were wishing they had taken their full naps! =)

"Boo-Boo All Better"

Brandon has received his first major boo-boo and I experienced my first "hold it together for his sake" moment. I am sure this is the first of MANY and I am so thankful it's a minor introduction to life with boys!

This happened at the YMCA yesterday morning...the popsicle was an attempt to make it all better. It got us to the dr's office so that's all that mattered.

I will spare you the details but it involved the leg of a baby swing (which he tripped over) and an open door (that isn't normally open). Yeah, there was lots of crying from my little man which led to lots of hugs for this Mama. I tried to put an ice pack on it while we were there but decided I would just take him on to the doctor. The cut was oozing (ewwwww).

So, where was Carson during all this? Well, he might only be 9 1/2 months old but he was aware that something was wrong with his big bubba. At the dr's office he sat in the stroller and ate lots of crackers. Hey, it kept him quiet and I was able to focus on Brandon.

I had to hold Brandon down while they flushed out the cut and glued it back together. The cries of, "Mommyyy" broke my heart but I just kissed his little hands and told him it was almost over. I am sure those three minutes were the longest three minutes of his little life.

So, a day later his boo-boo is "all better." We have had this conversation numerous times:
Brandon: "Boo-boo here." (pointing to his head)
Me: "I see your boo-boo but the doctor made it all better."
Brandon: "Yeah. All better."

We went back to the Y today and he was totally fine! Good thing kids "bounce back" quickly. If that happened to an adult we would be calling in to work with an ice pack on our head and aspirin next to the bed. Hahahahaha.

My boys are precious gifts and I am SO thankful for them!

Mama Weekend

I have the BEST sister and husband!

On Saturday afternoon I took the boys to Tiffany's on my way to Louisville...ALONE! Yes, I spent Saturday night and Sunday afternoon in Louisville without a husband or kids. Tiffany kept the kids Saturday because Nathan had to work. He picked them up when he got off work and had them all day today...how awesome is he?! I am SO blessed!!!

I got to Louisville around dinner time Saturday evening. I stayed with Beth who is one of my bestest friends and favorite people EVER so I was excited about spending quality time with her. Anyway, we met the Chaplins for dinner at Chili's which is my favorite restarant and our default get-together place whenever we are together.

I went to Highview this morning which is where Nathan and I were members when we lived in Louisville. It was nice to be back, see friends, and worship with them but I missed my Faith Church family. I guess that's the sign that Nashville finally feels like home!

I was able to hang out with my friends, Kim and Hannah, after church. I didn't have long because I had to be at a bridal shower but I was able to chat for a little while and catch up.

My friend, Katy, is getting married in July and her bridal shower was today. I am glad I was in town for it!

I left the shower and headed back to Nashville to be back in time for community group. It was a great Mama get-away but it was so good to get back home to my boys...all three of them! I got a few texts throughout the weekend but this was probably my favorite. I love this face!!

Thank you, Tiffany and Nathan! You are the best!!! I LOVE YOU!

Legacy

Nicole Nordeman has a song called "Legacy" which speaks of leaving a mark of boldness and living a life that longs to hear, "Well done good and faithful servant."
That is the song that comes to mind when I think of Drew Boling and his testimony through a battle with cancer. Click on the video below to hear his story:

Drew Boling from Highview Baptist Church on Vimeo.

His daughter is the sweet voice reading Romans 8:38-39. So precious!!

Anyway, I am not blogging to talk about Drew's illness or how I ache for Tammy and the kids. The most aweseme part of Drew's journey has been that God has received all the glory...watch this video!

Trevor Hale from Highview Baptist Church on Vimeo.

Drew shared his testimony which lead someone to the saving grace of Jesus Christ! How amazing! Drew has left a legacy and God has been glorified!

I want to leave a legacy
How will they remember me?
Did I choose to love? Did I point to You enough
To make a mark on things?
I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace who
blessed your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy

Mother's Day

Yesterday was Mother's Day and even though it's supposed to be a day about the kids celebrating their mommies, we celebrated our boys! Brandon was dedicated at our church in Louisville and yesterday it was Carson's turn. We have had the opportunity to publically commit to parent and lead our boys in a way that will help them grow in Godliness. It's a very humbling call on our lives!

Here are a few pictures from the dedication...

I took a nap yesterday afternoon and Nathan took Brandon outside for a little while last night so I could relax with Carson. It was a VERY low key, relaxing day. Thank you, Nathan! Oh, and thank you MORE for the double chocolate chip frappacino from Starbucks! It's my FAVORITE drink from there and I haven't had it since we moved to Nashville. Yummy! =)

I am blessed to have women in my life that have been great examples of Godly mothers and wives. It's a day to day decision to pursue Christ in ALL I do and I often fail but I am thankful for the little guys that God has allowed me to influence for HIS kingdom.

I LOVE YOU, BUBBAS!!!!

Saturday

We started our Saturday at the Y. I ran into a college friend of mine after Zumba yesterday (Friday) morning and we decided to meet for the class this morning. It's always so good to run into old friends!!

When we got home, I cleaned up the house a little bit and fixed lunch. Then, EVERYONE took naps. It was wonderful! Although, I don't do naps well because I always wake up more tired than when I laid down. Sad.

We hung out around the house until the Kentucky Derby was over and then we took the boys to the park. What a gorgeous day!!!

When we got home I gave the boys baths and got them ready for bed. Once they were asleep I went and cleaned out the van...it needed a major cleaning out and vacuuming!!

Now, Nathan is asleep on the couch and it's MAMA TIME! =)
